Must-See NYC Film Locations

There’s no explanation needed for why New York City is chosen as the backdrop for so many successful films and television shows. Lucky for Manhattanites, some of those films decided to bypass the stage sets, and film directly in the Big Apple. If you’re up for it, these are the must-see NYC film locations you can visit anytime you want!

  • Serendipity:Serendipity is one the most romantic films to ever be shot in Manhattan. After feeling a mutual attraction and eating some ice cream together at Serendipity III, characters Jonathan & Sara part ways, only to realize they each left something at the shop and return to find each other again. Serendipity III sits at 225 East 60th Street, between Second and Third Avenue. You can visit the shop any day between 11:30 a.m. and midnight to enjoy a sweet treat.
  • Ghostbusters: Who ya gonna call? This eccentric NYC film centers around three parapsychologists who attempt to rid Manhattan of ghosts. Their main target is an uptown high-rise apartment building, where art-restorer Dana Barret lives. The exterior of the main headquarters of the Ghostbusters’ business was shot at a still-used firehouse that sits on the Avenue of the America’s in Tribeca. If you decide to visit, you may see the sign from Ghostbusters 2 displayed on the wall.
  • Breakfast at Tiffany’s: There are not too many New Yorkers who don’t vividly know the opening scene of this classic NYC film. The image of Holly Golightly standing in front of the Tiffany’s jewelry display, pastry and coffee in hand, still done-up from the night before, is almost as famous as the image of Marilyn Monroe standing over a subway grate. Tiffany’s flagship store proudly sits on the corner of Fifth Avenue and East 57th Street on the Upper East Side. If you plan to visit and reenact the scene, we suggest going early in the morning to avoid too many tourists.

If you’re ever looking for more NYC film locations that aren’t as iconic, look up any Law & Order episode - you’re probably only a block away from at least one film location. For more updates on NYC film spots and all things Manhattan, follow AMAA on Facebook and Twitter!
